Project Overview


Memories by Mail: A Santa Project is a Barefoot Baby Foundation initiative inviting local children to write to Santa—and receive a personalized letter back from the North Pole. It’s simple, joyful, and free for families. Sponsors and community donors help cover paper, postage, and supplies so every child can experience the magic.

How to participate

  1. Write your letter to Santa. Kids can share wishes, good deeds, or holiday excitement.

  2. Include your contact info inside the envelope.

    • Return mailing address (required)

    • Parent/guardian email (required)

  3. Drop it in one of two North Pole Mailbox Location:

Location 1: Barefoot Baby, 44 Depot St, Marion, NC

Location 2: Davis Country Store & Cafe, 75 E Main St, Old Fort, NC

**Mailboxes will be open November 23 until Dec 12th. Any letters received after Dec. 12th may not receive a response from Santa.

*Please note: We never share email addresses outside the Barefoot Baby Foundation. Email addresses are used for project updates and future kid-focused events. Unsubscribe at any time.

What You'll Get Back


A keepsake letter from Santa on official North Pole stationery—personalized with your child’s name and a magical note from Santa’s helpers. Think official wax seal, sparkly envelopes, and a personalized letter. Expect smiles, refrigerator displays, and treasured memories.

Each letter costs about $2 to produce and mail. Your support helps to ensure that no matter how many letters we receive, every single child can get an official letter back.

Q: Does every child get a letter back?
A: Yes—if the original letter includes a return mailing address and email and arrives by Friday, December 12th.

Q: Is this only for McDowell County?
A: While this project is directed towards those living in McDowell County, all letters with the required information dropped off by the deadline will receive an official response from Santa.

Q: How will my email be used?
A: You will be added to the Barefoot Baby mailing list so you can learn about our programs and upcoming events throughout McDowell County. Unsubscribe at any time.

Q: Can I donate supplies instead of money?
